The passion for theater in Poggio San Marcello dates back (with documents in hand) to the 1600s, but with the construction of the beautiful Theater in 1877, several theatrical companies began to form, composed not only of residents of Poggio San Marcello but also people from outside the town.
In the 20th century (1900s), we see the birth of various theater groups:
In 1932, some local young people staged “Il Doge di Venezia”.
In the 1940s, theatrical activity became the domain of women with the “Compagnia del Barattolo”.
In the 1950s, the “Filodrammatica ‘Onda Lieta” formed, involving the Saverian Fathers.
In the 1960s, groups of young and not-so-young people returned to the stage with Mrs. Vocino Teresa.
In 1974, guided by Maria Gina Gentili in Libanori, Gianpietro Bruciaferri, Pompeo Venanzi, and many others staged “La Giara” by Pirandello, along with other comedies. In 1975, the theater continued under the direction of Tarcisio Vittori until 1978. Shortly after, restoration work began on the theater, and theatrical activities were suspended.
In 1984, a year after the death of Gianpietro Bruciaferri, based on an initial idea by Tarcisio Vittori and following the arrival of the new parish priest Don Maurizio Fileni, a new theater company was formed. It made its debut in 1985 with the newly restored theater. Since then, every year a new play is staged, and from the very beginning, the Company evolved into a Cultural, Theatrical, and Cinematographic Association, named after the theater friend Gianpietro Bruciaferri.
Today, the Cultural, Theatrical, and Cinematographic Association ‘Gianpietro Bruciaferri’ is registered with FITA Nazionale (the Italian Federation of Amateur Theater) and FITA GATT MARCHE. Since 2024, it has transformed into an APS (Social Promotion Association) and is registered with RUNTS (Third Sector).
