War Memorial
Details
The War Memorial of Poggio San Marcello stands in the heart of Piazza Giacomo Leopardi, a symbolic place of reflection and remembrance for the local community. Inaugurated in 1921, the monument is a tribute to the town’s soldiers who lost their lives during the two World Wars. Made of stone and marble, the work is characterized by its pyramidal base surmounted by a statue depicting a nude soldier, wearing a helmet, placed upon a large rock.
This monument, with its strong and significant visual impact, has over time become a gathering point for public commemorations and honor ceremonies, especially during war anniversaries. Its central position in the square makes it not only a tribute to the fallen but also a symbol of unity and historical memory for the entire community of Poggio San Marcello.
