EASY, suitable for families.

Trabocco Park is a natural area of rare beauty located in the “vallicola” that marks the boundary between the municipalities of Montecarotto and Poggio San Marcello. The trail that runs through it once represented an important connection between the two villages. In recent decades, the path has been abandoned and overtaken by wild vegetation, but in 2006, the area was partially reclaimed.

The name originates from the presence of a dozen “trabocchi” in the area, small weirs used to slow down the flow of water and stabilize its erosive effect.

The park has an elevation of about 233 meters above sea level and covers an area of about 263,214 square meters, located within the territories of the municipalities of Montecarotto and Poggio San Marcello.

The morphology of the land, shaped by the close proximity of the hill slopes, creates a watershed particularly rich in surface waters in autumn and spring. The Fossato stream forms a “Y” shape with its tributary and flows for 9.5 km before merging into the Esino River.

Inside the park, there are several trails to explore through the various points of interest:
– The ancient ruined mill
– The waterfalls
– The wild meadows

Old Mill

Old Mill
The ruins of the old mill testify to the historical importance of the site in pre-industrial rural life.
In particular, only the ruins of the old mill remain today, but in the past, the water, through successive "trabocchi" and passing through little waterfalls and weirs, used to power the millstones that ground flour for the population of Montecarotto and Poggio San Marcello, and beyond: it was a place of great importance in the pre-industrial centuries for the local population.

Napkins and Waterfalls

Napkins and Waterfalls
Paths, footbridges, little waterfalls, and rare plant species in a protected floristic area.
The park follows a suggestive layout: gentle slopes interspersed with more pronounced ones, all connected by pedestrian paths. The footbridges crossing the moat, along with the enchanting patchy forest, rich in tree species of various kinds, and the widespread "vines" evoke a sense of adventure and strong novelty. The park is lush with rare plant species, including ferns and dragon arum (Dracunculus Vulgaris). This context is enriched by the ruined complex of the ancient grain mill, which was powered by the waters of the stream, and by the charming little waterfalls, one natural and the other artificial, which were created at the time for the water diversion towards the mill. With the decree of the President of the Regional Council No. 190 of 29/09/2014, the Trabocco Park was included among the protected Floristic Areas (marked with number 26), where the collection, uprooting, and damage of all plants growing spontaneously are prohibited.
